Potpourri Musicale

Day 1 of Festival Chaguaramas climaxes with a concert, Potpourri Musicale, beginning at 6pm at Williams Bay.

The concert features a musical medley of top local musicians with complimentary wine and cheese by candlelight under the Chaguaramas stars.

Performers

César López

César López, who’s nowadays considered one of the most important sax players in the Latin Jazz, started studying music when he was 10, in his native Cuban province of Camagüey. Only three years later, he won the 1st Prize in the Cuban Nacional Sax Contest. In 1985 he started his profesional career with renowned Cuban musician Bobby Carcasés, who introduced César to Latin Jazz.

Rapso superstars, 3canal, began their musical journey in 1997, with the song Blue, a song which marked a turning point for the music industry of T&T. Two years later they recorded Talk yuh Talk.

3canal’s work as artists goes beyond its musical base, into Design & Consultancy, Performance Workshops, Event Production & Management.

The Black Stalin

Stalin, well known for hits such as We can make it if we try, Caribbean Man and Black Man feeling to Party, is a 5 time winner of T&T's National Calypso Monarch Competition.

Apart from a short stint as a tally clerk on the Pointe-a-Pierre waterfront and a brief adventure as a limbo dancer, calypso is all Stalin ever did since leaving primary school. He also played pan in his youth and still takes an occasional jam on the piano, but life for Black Stalin has been calypso.

Ray Holman

Composer, arranger and steel drum performer from Trinidad, Ray Holman is perhaps the most talented proponent of his art form internationally.

He has arranged and recorded with steel bands and artists in the US, Canada, Latin America, Japan and Europe, including televised performances with the German National Orchestra which showcased his compositions.

Drupatee

Drupatee Ramgoonai is a Trinidadian chutney and chutney-soca artiste from Penal. She had her biggest hit in 1988 when her (Roll Up the Tassa) Mr. Bissessar was a Road March contender.

Drupatee is well known throughout the world for her hot & spicy Chutney Soca performances. She has performed throughout the Caribbean, North America, Europe & even India alongside many internationally renowned stars.

Llettesha Sylvester

People have dubbed her the Trini Fantasia and it’s easy to see the connection. Llettesha Sylvester, 21, like the American Idol winner, has a voice that forces you to sit up and listen.

At this year's 29th Biennial T&T Music Festival, Sylvester entered and placed in ten categories, securing the win in the Broadway Musical and Leider categories respectively. She also took two adjudicator prizes for Most Outstanding Vocal Performance and the Second Place Myers Shield. - Trinidad Express
