Telecommunications

Telecommunications Services of Trinidad & Tobago (TSTT), which is partly owned by Cable and Wireless of the UK., and partly owned by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, is the nation’s only provider of telephone services at present.

In addition to the Americas-2 Fibre Optic Cable System which comes ashore at Macqueripe on the northern shore of the peninsula, the following are recent and ongoing developments by TSTT in the Chaguaramas area:

· Cellular: the establishment of 4 new digital cell sites to provide excellent service coverage to the area;

· Network: replacement of a 640 Outside Plant Access Concentrator (OPAC) with a Remote Switching Centre (RSC) with a capacity of 1920 lines with a fibre optic transport link into the network; and

· Data Communications: establishment of node of a Managed Digital Data Network to support leased and switched data communications.
