Electricity The Northwest Peninsula is supplied by a network of eight 33kV overhead transmission lines and seven distribution substations, referred to collectively as the Outer West Ring. The 33kV network is adequate for supplying the peak demand in the Outer West Ring and is designed to continue doing so with one circuit out of service. This configuration minimizes customer interruption time resulting from line faults and results in a relatively high supply reliability. The most westerly substation is Chaguaramas. This substation was completely refurbished and upgraded in early 1999 to coincide with the staging of the 1999 Miss Universe Pageant. Substation capacities are adequate to meet present demands and projected demands for at least the next five years. Capacities can be increased within the existing sites with minimal disruption to operations and periodic load monitoring will ensure sufficient lead-time to implement these increases. Individual customers are supplied via an overhead line distribution network consisting of 12kV radial feeders, pole-mounted transformers and a 115/230V mains system. |
