Chacachacare has a salt pond, this large body of water is separated from the sea by in thin strip of land. It also has a Light-house that was once recorded the as the oldest light house in the western hemisphere. 

Chacachacare    is a historical Gem, as far back as the Amerindians, the lighthouse 1896,a whaling station, a leprosarium in 1924,a invasion of venzuela, and more.

Chacachacare    once housed a leprosarium in 1924. At its inception there were 500 patients. Dr. Walter Ferdinand Van Crossen was in charge of the Clinc. The institute was located at Coco and Sanders Bays.
