The launched ushered in a new and greater dimension in the security and safety measures of the CDA, all geared towards further enhancing the experiences and enjoyment of all the peninsula’s users. The fleet includes 12 Mountain Bikes, five twin cab vans, two Jet Skis, two Rhinos and other unmarked vehicles, all aimed at supporting CDA’s other law enforcement initiatives and, by extension, the wider national security strategy. The mountain bikes constitute CDA’s newly established Bicycle Patrol Unit catering for 12 “Bike Officers,” dispersed throughout six sectors along the peninsula including our nature trails and parks. Trained and certified by the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA), will perform their duties to the highest standards, while equipped with the Standard Training Tools. The twin cab vans will serve in patrolling the peninsula’s roadways, while the two low emissions, low noise and low fuel consumption Jet Skis will work in tandem with the Life Guards in providing safety services near the shore waters from Tembladora Police Post to Harts Cut. |

CDA’s Deputy Chairman, Mr Rocky Garcia, said the launch was testimony of this resolve to provide that exceptional customer experience to all visitors by allowing them to conduct their activities without concerns for their safety and security and that of their possessions. He said CDA’s vision was to make Chaguaramas the premier provider of the ultimate customer experience in a world class eco-tourism destination, business and entertainment centre. |

Great emphasis is, therefore, placed on optimizing the region’s potential by setting the stage for the development of tourism, leisure and marine-related industries on a vast scale. This, in turn, will provide the necessary economic space to trigger growth into our economy. With such planned development, security and safety are paramount. As a result, crime reduction and containment and the improvement of the general environment for safety and security have been given the number one priority by the Authority. He said the fleet will also aid in the work of our Life Guards, assisting with the safety of sea bathers. The two Yamaha Rhino All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) are solid and tough, but also user friendly. There uses are many including traversing our many trails and tackling rough terrains, accessing our caves and remote locations; transporting gear and small equipment as well as beachfront and mobile patrols to rescue operations. They will also aid in supporting our Litter Wardens, expected to also come on stream within the next few weeks.

It is to be clearly noted that CDA’s new security fleet is also competently supported by an ICT platform and includes the installation of GPS Systems on all vehicles. This provides accountability and disposition of vehicles at all times and also allows for timely responses, particularly in emergencies. The launch is just but one of several strategic security initiatives embarked upon by the CDA. As the Authority continues to attract substantial investor interests locally, regionally and internationally, (with many expressing keen desires in investing substantial amounts in the development of the peninsula), this new fleet and upcoming security initiatives certainly speak to CDA’s thrust to ensure the security, safety and future viability of investors and their interests. |
