The Chaguaramas Hotel and Convention Centre was built by American engineers during World War II for use as a military dormitory, when the whole peninsular was a military base.

The building was renovated and refurbished as a Convention Centre for the signing of the Chaguaramas Treaty in 1972, that established the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Since then the Centre has been the venue for many other historical and important meetings.

The Chaguaramas Hotel and Convention Centre  welcomed guest attending the 1999 Miss Universe Pageant, hosted in the Chaguaramas Peninsula on May 26, 1999.

The Hotel was also the venue for the glamorous Coronation Ball for the 1999, Pageant.

In late 1998 the Chaguaramas Development Authority initiated a major renovation and upgrade of the hotel. A high standard and quality has been established, to guarantee the comfort of our guests. To take advantage of the splendid proportions of the existing building the architects adopted an American/Caribbean style as the guide for the design process, using palm elements as the unifying theme of the two facilities.
