World Environment Day Activities

World environment day is celebrated not as a festival, but to contemplate the ills that are currently affecting the environment. These will include the constant removal of the forest cover, the polluting of our seas and rivers and other contributors towards the green house effect. Little emphasis is placed on this day by most governments of the world, leaving the burden to environmental groups and other Non governmental and Community based organization.

 As far as the CDA is concerned World Environmental Day is an opportunity to educate the public about our environment. This is accomplished through invitation sent to schools there after they are given a lecture on the environment and the need for us to plant trees before actually engaging in a planting exercise.  The occasion is an opportunity to launch the CDA ’s Reforestation program as it occurs at the commencement of the planting or rainy season. This planting nurses our soils back to health. Reforestation is the planting of forest in areas that have had forest in the past but it was destroyed by fires, deforestation and other forms of tree removal.
