43 Runners, symbolizing forty-three years of independence, started the run from Woodford Square in Port of Spain. These runners were escorted by police outriders (motorcyclist) and  sent off by some of the original walkers  who walked back in 1960, by asking the runners to complete the journey for us/me. The runners proceeded to the US Embassy, where they will be given the National Flag, the flag that was carried by the runners to the Assembly point at Cocorite. The National Flag was handed over to the walkers. All of the walkers at the  starting point had small flags. The walk  began from this point to Chaguaramas, also escorted by Police. There was a music truck, DJ Crosbys Sounds, for the hundreds of walkers to chip along the way to Pier 2 Chaguaramas. Water stations were placed along the route supplied by Water One. After walking pass areas such as, West Moorings, Goodwood Park, Point Cumana, L'anse Mitan and Carenage, the walkers reached their destination Chaguaramas. The walkers were greeted by Steel pan, African and Indian drums who will now in turn carry them down to Pier 2.  The first 1500 walkers  received a commemorative Medal. There was a Flag raising ceremony where the Trinidad and Tobago Flag will raised with the CDA flag.  Then it's was celebration time at Pier 2, with a Cultural Concert, featuring Mavis John, 3 Canal, Dill E Nadan, Regeneration Now, Maximus Dan, Ice Water Pan Assembly and Power Boats Scorpions. There was a shuttle service provided, from designated shuttle area back to the West Mall area.
